Former Christchurch United goalkeeper Jordan Dupuis has impressed United States soccer coaches with the same dazzling skills he used to display here.

Dupuis's lightening reflexes and natural agility had him earmarked from an early age as the natural successor to Alan Stroud on the local scene.

However, Canterbury's loss has been Harvard's gain with Dupuis having established himself as the number one goalkeeper in the Ivy League.

He was recently named in the Ivy League select team nominated by the coached of Yale, Princeton, Brown, Cornell, Columbia, Pennsylvania, Dartmouth, and Harvard.

"It wasn't really something I was looking for, but it was quite an honour," Dupuis said.

Dupuis is back in Christchurch for a short break before returning to Harvard for exams toward his four year degree in government.

Dupuis started the soccer season on the bench at Harvard, but after half an hour the original first choice goalkeeper was substituted and Dupuis kept goal for the remainder of the season.

After losing its first game to Cornell, Harvard won its next 16 regular season games. It was the post season national tournament before its record-breaking run ended with a 3-2 loss to the University of Hartford.

"The coaches and everyone are just astounded how the season went. It is by far the best they have done and their longest winning streak." Dupuis said.

Dupuis was pleased with his performances and feels he has made progress in the 16 months he has been away.

Dupuis will be a spectator at tomorrow night's Smokefree national league match between Woolston and Waitakere City at Garrick Park.

He left for Harvard in August last year when the superclub winter competition was the sole competition.

"It (Ivy League) would be superior to the superclub. There are a number of incredibly skilful players spread among the teams."
