Game Report
In a game that didn't
mean that much to either team other than the chance to
end the season at either just above or just below .500,
Hartwick pulled out a 3-2 win over Harvard on their home
turf.
They struck early (1
minute into the game), which is as lousy a time as any to
get scored upon. (Wait, I forgot about the Dartmouth game...) Later in the half, Juan
Carlos Montoy rebounded a Tom McLaughlin direct kick
(Tommy's assist breaks the Harvard career record for
assists: 24), and Chinezi Chijioke scored on a 40-yard
run, in which he beat defenders and the goalkeeper
(assist by Tommy, but not credited, as yet).
McLaughlin repeated as
the Ivy League scoring champion. He finished with
12 goals and 7 assists. Keeper Ben Weeden was in
goal, and registered 5 assists.
The team will meet
Tuesday night to select next year's captain, as well as
the Welch MVP, the Hamilton Fish Award for most improved
player, and the Louis G. Williams Award. The
winners will be announced in early December at the team's
end-of-season banquet.
