Two fifteen minute sudden death overtime periods
followed regulation play.
Game Report
The Crimson escaped from Ohiri Field with what could
have been an awful way to begin the season. With just over ten minutes left in the
second overtime period, sophomore Beth Zotter put in a rebound from the low right post to
seal the victory.
Harvard showed some early season rust in the first 15
minutes, but shook it off for most of the rest of the game. They were unable to
dominate Boston University as they did other teams last year, though. BU is a good
team, if young, aggressive, and attacked well on occasion. For Harvard it was
perhaps just a question of time before they would find the net. Several shots went
off the post, and there were other times when they were just unlucky.
Harvard looked like it was still trying to find the
right combination in the midfield, since All American Emily Stauffer is taking the year
off in order to donate bone marrow to her brother, Matt. (More on that later.)
Tim Wheaton used a bunch of line-ups, and played 17 or 18 players during the match.
Further, Naomi Miller, a huge scoring threat, played about half of the game due to
an injury. But the team's depth and conditioning helped the team; BU was clearly exhausted
toward the end of the game.
Jennifer Burney came up with some huge saves. Miller
played well, as did Devon Bingham in the middle. Freshmen Meredith Stewart and
Lauren Corkery both saw action. Jaime Chu was strong at stopper in her first game
since 1995, but left the game with an injury (leg cramps?).
Next up is University of New Hampshire, a team with five
injured starters, which just suffered a defeat at Holy Cross, 2-1.

Team records:
Harvard 1-0-0
Boston University 3-2-0

Scoring
Beth Zotter (109:00), unassisted.
