Game Report

Harvard spend all afternoon creating numerous scoring chances, capitalizing on just one of them.  It was all they would need.  The Buffaloes were indeed an endangered species all afternoon, as they managed just 2 (two) shots against Harvard's defense, compared with the Crimson's 30.

In the 68th minute, freshman Lauren Corkery took a shot from outside the 18, and Naomi Miller cleverly and deftly deflected the ball into the net.   Colorado's keeper, Heidi Burgett, as busy as anyone out there, had no chance at all.

Tim Wheaton tried a new look today, perhaps in order to unleash the team's dormant offensive powers.  Anne Browning was in goal, which isn't so unusual, as Tim usually rotates between her and Jennifer Burney, the two All-Ivy keepers.  However, Anne only had to make one save, and given Harvard's play in the back, she probably could have just as easily received credit for the shut out if she had stayed in bed.

Wheaton put Naomi Miller (still not 100%), Lauren Corkery, and Brynne Zuccaro into the starting lineup, one which on paper was generally more offensive-oriented.  The Crimson offense was oppressive, but couldn't finish a large number of opportunities.  Sometimes that happens when the other team is not competitive enough: there is a tendency to lay back, and the team's hunger to get the ball in the net is not there as it should be.

This doesn't mean we need to worry about the women's team, though.  They have TONS of talent, more than they know what to do with, the Ivy matches in so far show less parity this year rather than more, and who cares if they are not ranked in the top four teams in the country.  Their mission is to win their third straight Ivy title, and get things in place for the tournament.  Their chances of doing that are undiminished.

Scoring
Harvard:  Miller (Corkery, Blain), 68:00.
